Wisdom of weekend: Essential oils (Post 5): Eucalyptus Oil

Hello beauties. Today I am sharing with you the healing properties of  "Eucalyptus Essential Oil".
Hope you all will relish reading this. Kindly share your thoughts.
(Note: Please use your own discretion and do a patch test while following any advises because everyone's skin if different)


What is Eucalyptus oil ?
Eucalyptus Oil is an essential oil is made from Eucalyptus leaves (Eucalyptus globulus) by steam distillation.
It has a strong minty aroma and is colorless in color. It has powerful antiseptic and germicidal properties.Thus is generally used for medicinal use like muscle pain, tooth ache. It is also used in soaps and spas due to its calming properties. Great for sauna too.

What are its benefits ?

Anti septic and anti bacterial
Heals wounds,ulcers and minor cuts
Treats respiratory problems
(nasal congestion, bronchitis and sinusitis)
Relaxes mind and reduces stress
Analgesic properties cure muscle pains
Germicidal properties helps in dental care
Works in reducing fever along with peppermint oil
Helps to ease upset stomach
Helps to control blood sugar
Reduces inflammation and pain
Treats bleeding gums
Treatment for elimination of lice from hair
Expectorant (dilutes cough) helpful in Sinusitis
(diluted steam form)
Helps to treat asthma
Reduces odor and great as a household cleanser


Make sure that your Eucalyptus tree oil is organic and 100% pure.

How to use it ?
Eucalyptus oil is pretty strong and thus should be used with a carrier (mild oil).
Examples are:
Jojoba Oil
Sweet Almond Oil
Coconut Oil
Olive Oil
Avocado Oil
Castor Oil

Mix 2-3 drops of Eucalyptus oil in 1 teaspoon of carrier oil.

Any caution ?
Its shelf life is usually 2 years . Do check the manufacturing date.
Eucalyptus oil is highly toxic if consumed by mouth in concentrated form. It must be diluted  as per the doctor's instructions.Do keep it in a safe place (away from pets and children).
It may irritate skin if used directly or used more than recommended or in high concentration .
Check for any allergies to it by doing a patch test on small area of skin and look for any reactions.
Stop using it if skin shows any reaction/irritation/redness/swelling/itching.
Please consult your doctor for its usage if your you are pregnant, nursing mother or undergoing any medical treatment

  6. I love how eucalyptus essential oil unblocks my nose when it's stuffy, but I'm not that big on using it on my skin! I am not allergic to it per se, but I want to play safe. Again, thanks for the very informative post!
